What You Need to Install Artificial Turf
Many customers ask us what they need to buy besides the Artificial Turf, to be able to install it in their garden.
Well, besides the turf itself, the accessories to buy will depend on whether the installation is done on hard flooring or on soil. When we refer to hard flooring, we mean any type of surface that does not need to be conditioned or compacted. For example, tiles, concrete, flat stone, terrazzo, etc. If the ground is soil, sand, loose stone, etc., the situation changes a bit. Let’s look at both options.

Accessories for Installing Artificial Turf on Hard Flooring
To install Artificial Turf on any hard and relatively flat surface, you don’t really need much. Only if you have to join pieces. Since the rolls are 2m wide, it is most common that you will have to join several pieces to match the exact measurements of your area.
Joining Strip
We have two types of joining strips:
- Adhesive bonding strip: The 10mtrs adhesive bonding strip has two strips of protective film, so you can first stick one cloth and then the other. Keep in mind that it only sticks on one side.
- Non-adhesive bonding strip: The non-adhesive bonding strip is used as a base to apply the glue. It will depend on how many meters long you have to join to know how many rolls you have to buy. We sell them in 10m long rolls.

Adhesive or Glue
Once you have the joining strip, you need to apply the adhesive or glue. And here we have to calculate how much glue we need. Logically, it will depend directly on the meters of strip we have to coat.
We currently have a 750g bottle of single-component adhesive, which covers about 4 linear meters.
A 5.10kg Bi-component Kit that can be stretched for approximately 15 linear meters. The latter, being bi-component, must be mixed well before use.
We also have a silicone tube-type cartridge of 290ml adhesive for easy application, which covers about 3 linear meters.
It can be applied not only to the joining strip but also directly to the ground, to glue the turf in the areas where it is needed.
Mastic Adhesive Tape
Another option, different from the adhesive or non-adhesive joining strip and glue, is to use mastic adhesive tape. It is very easy to apply and is professional grade. This one, unlike the others, sticks on both sides.
Accessories for Installing Artificial Turf on Soil
Weed Control Fabric
If the ground where you need to install the Artificial Turf is soil, in addition to everything previously mentioned for hard flooring, you will need to add weed control fabric. Our weed control fabric is of the highest quality, with the highest grammage, 160. This ensures that we will not have problems with weeds. Normally, a few more square meters are used than for the turf, as it is not as tightly fitted, and sometimes the panels overlap, which is why it ends up being a few more meters than the turf.
Other Accessories That Facilitate Installation (and Maintenance)
With these basic materials, you can install Artificial Turf without a problem. Even so, if you like the “do it yourself” approach done well, there are some additional accessories that are not mandatory but are very useful for improving the finish, durability, and maintenance over time. These are small details that, in practice, make a difference.
Silica Sand: A Highly Recommended Element
Silica sand is applied once the turf is installed. It is spread over the surface and brushed so that it falls between the fibers.
What is it for?
- Helps fibers stay upright
- Provides weight and stability to the turf
- Reduces wear from foot traffic
- Improves natural appearance in the long term
In areas of frequent use, terraces, or gardens with pets, this step is highly recommended.

Artificial Turf Brush
After laying the turf and applying the sand, it’s time to brush. You can do this with a manual stiff-bristle brush for small areas, or with a thick street sweeper-type brush or an electric brush if the space is large. Brush everything well, and the turf will look spectacular.
Practical tip: always brush against the grain to lift the fibers and distribute the sand evenly.
Professional Cutter and Metal Ruler
Well-executed cuts are noticeable. A robust cutter and a long metal ruler will help you with:
- Adjusting perimeters
- Edging walls and planters
- Dealing with pillars, corners, or drains
This is not your typical stationery cutter: the firmer and more precise it is, the better the result. For example, if you have a planter in the middle of the patio, a professional cutter will allow you to trim around it without leaving irregular edges.
Fasteners According to Surface Type
The substrate determines the accessories you need:
- On soil: U-shaped staples to secure the turf
- On pavement: specific adhesives and joining tapes
- For specific finishes: cable ties or auxiliary fasteners
