Before starting to install artificial turf

How much artificial turf do I need?

It is essential to measure the area you want to cover with artificial turf. This will allow you to calculate how many square meters of grass you will need and make sure you buy the right amount. Remember that our artificial turf rolls are usually 2 meters wide, so you have to decide the length of each of the sections you need to install it all over the surface. Now that you have everything ready, let’s move on to the installation.

How to Install Artificial Grass on Pavement

Step 1: Prepare the artificial turf

Once you have the surface well cleaned and free of dust, follow these steps:

  1. Spread the artificial turf rolls on the pavement. Be sure to cover the entire surface you want to install.
  2. With the help of a box cutter and string, start cutting the artificial turf, making sure that the cuts are straight.
  3. Remember that it is very important that the grass yarns of all the pieces are arranged in the same direction to obtain a uniform visual result.
  4. Adjust the sod to the perimeter of the area, especially if there are columns, steps or other irregularities. To do this, use the box cutter and cut the grass to fit perfectly to corners and edges.
  5. Clean up the edges of the lawn to restore possible imperfections.
  6. Leave a gap of 0.5 cm between each section of turf. This is necessary to facilitate the installation and avoid creases. Once all the pieces are in place, comb the joints to check that the space between them will not be visible, being covered by the fibers.

2nd Step: Joining the artificial turf pieces together

To achieve a perfect and long-lasting installation, it is essential to join all the pieces of turf properly. Follow this process:

  1. Lift the ends of the artificial turf pieces by folding them inward about 5 cm on each side.
  2. Place a self-adhesive strip in the center of both pieces. This strip will be in charge of joining them. Remove the adhesive protector from one side of the strip and press the artificial turf onto it. Do the same with the other side of the strip to join the two sections together. Once the pieces are joined, comb the joint so that it is invisible. This will make it look like one continuous piece of turf.

Repeat this process for all joints between artificial turf pieces.

At the ends of the lawn, you can use a joint band or silicone to make sure that everything is well fixed.

3rd Step: Brushing the artificial turf

The last step to make your artificial turf perfect is to brush it. Use a stiff bristle brush to comb through the fibers and lift them up. This will make the grass look more natural and fluffy.

Optional tip: Use of silica sand

If you want to give it an even more professional finish, you can sprinkle silica sand on the artificial turf. This material has several benefits:

  • It provides more stability to the turf as it improves the grip and adherence to the pavement on which the artificial turf is installed.
  • Achieves greater comfort in the footprint.
  • It helps to keep the fibers vertical, which gives the grass a more natural and fluffy appearance.
  • It works as a thermal insulator reducing surface heat.
  • It also reduces static electricity.
