Artificial Grass for swimming pools

At this time of the year, everyone wants to have an inflatable or removable pool and what better than putting artificial turf in it.

We are going to explain some things and clarify some doubts about artificial turf and swimming pools.

Artificial Grass with inflatable pools.

When we want to put artificial turf under an inflatable pool, we have to take into account several things.

Are we going to pick up the lawn when the summer is over?

If so, are you confident that this is the best option?

How high do we want the artificial turf to be?

Well, I could go on asking many, many more questions, but for the moment, let’s solve some of them.

With respect to harvesting the lawn when the summer is over, it is a question that I am asked a lot, in fact they don’t ask me, they affirm it. But I doubt that this is the best thing for the lawn.

Removing artificial turf at the end of the summer?

If you are going to pick it up at the end of the summer, it is a nuisance to have to cut the bands again and put them back the following year. And of course, there’s no need to glue any part of it to the floor. With the consequent expense of buying more adhesive and adhesive strips or self-adhesive strips.

Therefore, it will not look as good as if we make a complete installation in which all the pieces are perfectly joined together and the cuttings that it may have.

But not only that, but when rolling it up for storage, we will hardly know how to roll it up like in the factory, where they put the cardboard tube inside and roll it up perfectly, so it can be stored without any problem. At home you will not be able to roll it up the same way and therefore it will be folded probably badly for months. So it is possible that it will spoil even more than when it is put in place.

It must be taken into account that the current lawn models, at least the ones we have, have a minimum warranty of 6 years and 8 in many cases. With a real duration of more than 10 without problem.

A properly installed fixture, with all the parts securely attached and without having to remove and replace it every year, will last you a long time.

Another thing is that we opt for the 10mm type of grass, like the one we have, the SUMMER TEN model.

It is a lawn that does not drain the water like the other models we have, but it does its function perfectly. It avoids slips, it does not puncture, if it gets wet nothing happens to it, it makes the hard surface we have much more pleasant to walk on. And the little ones can play without any problem.

This model is superior to the typical green carpet, but does not reach the level of being an artificial turf itself, although it even has brown curly yarn at the base.

It has the great advantage of being very manageable, both in its transport, storage and installation or cutting.

It is advisable to remove this model after the summer and replace it the following year.

Does the grass withstand chlorine from the swimming pool?

This is a question I am asked daily by my customers, and it is very common for manufacturers to put it in their technical data sheets. But be careful, no lawn, no matter how good it is, will withstand direct contact with chlorine (sodium chloride) without any problem. All of them can withstand contact with pool water, since the percentage of chlorine is not enough to affect it. But as long as they are of high quality, in the style of those manufactured in the EU. Like our models.

Will the artificial turf be crushed by the removable pool?

Yes, but…

If the pool is going to be removed, as is the vast majority of cases, at the end of the summer and the lawn is going to be left for the whole year, it must be taken into account that the artificial turf will suffer a very large pressure and for a long time. There is no guarantee from any manufacturer that covers it. But, if we take good care of it and we take into account a couple of things, it will last for many years.

First of all, we have to take into account that the higher it is, the more yarn has to be lifted and the more it will be noticed with the rest of the lawn. Even so, after removing the pool, we must be patient and do not want the lawn to return to its place immediately. The ideal is that the sun shines on it and so it warms it up and becomes more moldable. But after a couple of days of removing the swimming pool, we can already begin to help him to rise, with a brush of the thick ones brushing always against hair, of course, and a little every day until achieving to leave everything equally. Even so it is highly recommended in these cases, to apply dry silica sand at the rate of a bag of 25kgs per 10m2 approx. The silica sand will help him to keep him upright.

So if this summer you want to enjoy a removable pool, the ideal is to put artificial turf, either 10mm or 40mm, if you plan to remove it or not, and will depend on the choice of the model of grass and of course the budget.
