Installing artificial turf in your home is an excellent way to enjoy a green space all year round without complications. However, for a successful and long-lasting installation as well as proper maintenance, it is essential to have the necessary accessories.
In this article, we tell you what they are, what they are for and what quantities you need. In the fashion jargon, we are going to talk about the “must have” of the artificial turf accessories.
Essential Accessories for Artificial Grass Installation and Maintenance
1. Anti-weed or Geotextile Mesh
This accessory prevents weeds from growing under the artificial turf, ensuring a clean and durable finish. This material will only be necessary if you are going to install the turf above ground.
It is available in different weights: weed netting of 100 grof 120 gr and 160 gr. And you will tell me: Which one should I buy? That will depend on the amount of weeds that usually grow in your garden or yard. If there are few weeds, the 100 gr anti weed netting will be enough, but if there are many, it is better to use the 160 gr, because the higher the weight, the less light passes through, and therefore the more difficult it will be for weeds to appear.
Recommendation: Buy 5% more square meters of mesh than artificial turf to cover possible adjustments and trimmings during installation.
2. Union Band
It is used to join the different sections of artificial turf and achieve a uniform finish without visible joints. It is used in both artificial turf installations on the ground and on pavement.
You can buy it in two different formats: Adhesive bonding band of 10 meters y of 5 meters y 20 cm x 10 m non-adhesive jointing bands y 30 cm x 10 mwhich you need to complete the installation of the bicomponent.
Quantity needed: Measure the linear meters of joints you will have according to your installation plan. A previous plan is key to calculate correctly and facilitate the installation.
3. Bicomponent
It is a special adhesive for joining pieces of artificial turf using a non-adhesive bonding strip.
It comes in two sizes:
- Kit of bicomponent adhesive 12kg covers approximately 30 linear meters.
- Two-component adhesive kit 6 kg is sufficient for 15 linear meters.
Be sure to calculate the total length of the joints to purchase the proper amount.
4. Double-sided adhesive tape or masking tape.
This is another option for attaching the turf to the perimeter. The double-sided adhesive tape is ideal for those areas where staples cannot be used, such as when it is installed on pavement.
Its format is 5 cm wide x 5 meters long.
Quantity required: Calculate the linear meters of the perimeter and buy as many rolls as you will need, according to the previous plan.
5. Cutter
A cutter that makes a clean cut is essential for trimming artificial turf to fit the shape of the space. Look for a good quality one to make the job easier.
6. Staples
The staples are used to fix the artificial turf to the ground, ensuring that it does not move or lift, when installed on the ground.
Recommended quantity:
- Place a staple every meter on the total perimeter.
- In high traffic areas (such as entrances or exits), place one every half meter for better fixation, preventing it from being lifted.
7. Cleaning Kit
A clean lawn is not only prettier, but lasts longer. Kit includes:
- Sanitizer for disinfecting. We have it available in 0,5L and 1L format.
- Brush to comb through the fibers and maintain their straight and natural appearance.
