What do I need to install artificial turf?

  • Many clients ask us, what do they have to buy apart from the artificial turf, to be able to install it in their garden.

Well, apart from, as it is obvious, the lawn, the accessories to buy, will depend on whether the installation is made on screed, or on the ground. When we talk about screed, we refer to any type of floor that does not have to be conditioned or compacted. For example, tiles, concrete, flat stone, terrazzo, etc… If the ground is made of earth, sand, loose stone, etc… The thing changes a little. Let’s see the two options.

Accessories for installing artificial turf on screed:

To install artificial turf on any hard and more or less flat ground, you really don’t need much. Only in case you have to join pieces together. Since the rolls are 2m wide, you will usually have to join several pieces together to get the exact measurements of your ground.

Joint band:

We have two types of banding.
Adhesive bonding strip: The 10mtrs adhesive bonding strip has two strips of protective film, so you can first stick one cloth and then the other. Keep in mind that it only sticks on one side.
Non-adhesive bonding strip: The non-adhesive bonding strip is used as a base to apply the glue. It will depend on how many meters long you have to join to know how many rolls you have to buy. We sell them in 10m long rolls.
Tip: If you are not clear about how to lay out the different cloths, you can contact us and we will help you.

Adhesive or glue:

Once the joining band is obtained, the adhesive or glue must be applied. And here we have to calculate how much glue we need. Logically it will depend directly on the meters of band that we have to spread.
We currently have a 750gr bottle of monocomponent adhesive, which is enough for about 4 linear meters. A Bi-component Kit of 5,10kg that bicomponent adhesive for artificial grasscan be stretched to approximately 15 linear meters. The latter, being a bi-component, must be mixed well before use. We also have a cartridge type silicone tube, 290ml adhesive for easy application, which gives about 3 linear meters.
It can be applied not only on the joining strip, but also directly on the ground, to glue the grass in the areas where it is needed.

Mastic adhesive tape: mastic tape for artificial grass

Another option other than the adhesive or non-adhesive tape and glue, is to apply mastic type adhesive tape. It is very easy to apply and is a professional type. This one, unlike the other one, does stick on both sides.

Accessories for above ground artificial turf installation:

Anti-weed netting :

Normally it is spent a few square meters more than lawn, as it is not so tight and sometimes overlapping cloths, hence finally are a few meters more than lawn.

These accessories are enough to install artificial turf on any surface. As indispensable tools, do not forget a tape measure, cutter and spatula to apply the glue, if it is necessary to apply it.
