Land Preparation
Step 1: Clearing the land
Make sure to clean the area where you are going to install the artificial turf. It is very important to clear the ground and eliminate weeds. To do this, remove stones and any debris that may be on the surface of the ground. Next, weed the entire area to make sure it is clean. This is essential for a good result.
Step 2: Spraying with herbicide
Spray herbicide all over the ground and you will prevent weeds from growing back. This will not lift or damage the backing of the artificial turf you have installed.
Step 3: Level the ground with sand or gravel.
It is crucial to level the ground to avoid bumps and unevenness. Use a shovel and rake to smooth the soil. If the terrain has slopes, try to smooth them as much as possible.
Spread a layer of gravel about 5-10 cm thick over the soil. This will help to improve drainage and maintain the stability of the lawn. Subsequently, also add sand to give it more consistency.
Step 4: Compact the soil
Water the surface with water and make sure to compact the soil well with a roller so that no holes or irregularities are formed on the surface, thus achieving a solid base.
Step 5: Placement of anti-weed netting
Cover the entire ground with weed netting. Fix it with nails all around the perimeter. We advise you to leave a distance of one meter between nails. Be careful to overlap the ends of the mesh that touch each other by about 10 centimeters. Then cut the excess mesh by adjusting it to the edges of the ground surface with a cutter.
Step 6: Unroll and Spread Artificial Turf
Unroll the artificial turf and lay it on the prepared surface leaving a gap of half a centimeter between pieces. Make sure that all the pieces are well aligned and tight, with the artificial turf fibers in the same direction.
Trim the edges with a cutter and go around the obstacles.
Step 7: Join the pieces
You can do this in several ways:
- With a joining band:
Fold the adjoining ends of the artificial turf in opposite directions to expose the weed netting. Place the joint tape under the joints. Compose the bicomponent kit and spread it in the center of the strip with a flat, as shown in the video. Finally, press the end of each piece of artificial turf on the joint band to secure it.
- With a self-adhesive band:
As in the previous case, fold the adjoining ends of the artificial turf in opposite directions so that the weed netting is visible. But now, place the self-adhesive strip under the joints. Remove the paper from the adhesive and press each end of the artificial turf onto it, first one side and then the other. The joint should not be noticeable.
Step 8: Spreading silica sand
Spread a layer of silica sand on the lawn (43 kg per square meter depending on the height of the lawn) and brush it away from the fibers, so that it settles between them. This will add weight to the turf and improve its stability and appearance.
